The country confirmed their participation for the 21st edition of the North Vision Song Contest on 27 August 2016. However, along with the confirmation, rumors were spread that Dansk Melodi Grand Prix would be cancelled and a new selection would replace the selection after fifteen editions of run. Four days later though, on 31 August 2016, it was announced that the 16th edition of the selection would be held in order to select the country's entry in the 21st edition.
Dansk Melodi Grand Prix 16 was the 16th edition of the Danish music competition that selected Denmark's entry for the North Vision Song Contest 21. Hosted by Lise Rønne, ten songs competed in the selection which consisted of a final and a super-final, both held at B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen. The ten songs competed in the final with the top four most voted advancing to the super-final of the selection.
The ten artists of the selection were presented on 31 August 2016 while their songs were presented on 3 September 2016. The voting in the final started on 11 September 2016 and ended three weeks later, on 30 September 2016 with the four songs that qualified to the super-final being revealed the following day, on 12 September 2016.
Super-final[]
The super-final of the selection took place between 1 and 15 October 2016 at B&W Hallerne in Copenhagen. The top four songs of the final competed in the super-final. "Tordenkys" performed by MAIA was selected as the winner by an international jury voting.
