Ireland has participated in the North Vision Song Contest twenty-six times since making its debut in the first edition. The Irish broadcaster, Raidió Teilifís Éireann (RTÉ), has been in charge for the country's participation since the 1st edition. The broadcaster hosted several selections, including Made In Ireland and Emerald Festival. However, some of their entries were selected internally.
Ireland's best result is their victory in the 28th edition, achieved by Lyra with the song "Falling". The country failed to qualify on various occasions, however, the worst result to date came in the 26th edition, with 19th place in the semi-final.
Ireland hosted the 29th edition of the contest. The contest has been broadcast since the 1st edition by RTÉ and had several commentators in charge either for radio or television.
The contest takes place during the contest, usually during the second semi-final of the respective edition. It is not an televised event, but only through YouTube. Ireland debuted in the first edition, held for the eighth edition.
